King refuses to intervene to help Haidar

Aminatou Haidar, the Western Saharan human rights activist, who has been on hunger strike at Lanzarote Airport since she was expelled by the Moroccan authorities almost a month ago, has announced that she is refusing all medical care and that she "will return" to her homeland "dead or alive" and "with or without" her passport.
The Moroccan authorities confiscated her passport when she refused to define herself as Moroccan on an official form, and her subsequent expulsion from El-Aaiún has won the support of many prominent Spaniards including actor Javier Bardem and film director Pedro Almodovar.
Along with representatives of the main trade unions, UGT and CCOO, they have now taken their campaign right to the top, presenting in public in the country's capital a letter addressed to King Juan Carlos, asking him intervene to save Haidar's life.
In response to a similar letter from the Izquierda Unida (IU), which had asked the king to use his good relations with the Moroccan royal family to find a solution, the royal household has already responded saying that "this is not the right moment for his Majesty to intervene".
For 25 days now, Aminatou Haidar has refused all food and drunk only sweetened water. Camped out at Lanzarote Airport, her resolve has not weakened and she has made it clear that she will continue refusing food until the Moroccan authorities allow her back to her home. She is fully aware of the risks she is taking and drew up her will with lawyers a few days.
Now she has increased the pressure on the Spanish government to resolve her situation, declaring that she will not accept any more medical help at all. That decision follows what Ms Haidar calls a "terrifying" visit by a team of Spanish lawyers and medics on Sunday. The hunger-striker says they came to assess the possibility of force-feeding her, instead of forcing Morocco to allow her home.
Jose Luis Rodríguez Zapatero insists his government is doing everything possible to reach a solution, but as Aminatu Haidar's health weakens, neither she nor the Moroccan authorities are showing any sign of compromise.
On Monday, Morocco's foreign minister accused the campaigner of political blackmail, saying she was acting for the separatist Polisario Front that fought a war with Morocco over Western Sahara until the 1990s.

مدريد ـ 'القدس العربي': كشف حزب اليسار الموحد الإسباني أن حكومة مدريد رفضت تدخل الملك خوان كارلوس لدى نظيره المغربي الملك محمد السادس في ملف الناشطة الصحراوية أميناتو حيدر لإيجاد حل لملفها المتمثل في الإضراب عن الطعام منذ 26 يوما بسبب طرد الرباط لها من مطار العيون نحو لانساروتي في جزر الخالدات وذلك لعدم اعترافها بالجنسية المغربية.
ومنذ بدء أميناتو حيدر الإضراب عن الطعام يوم 15 الماضي كإجراء ضغط للعودة إلى مدينة العيون في الصحراء، طالبت أصوات سياسية وفنية من الملك خوان كارلوس التدخل لصالح هذه الناشطة.
ومن التفسيرات في هذا الشأن أن سياسة التشدد التي ينهجها المغرب في ملف الصحراء مؤخرا بدأت أساسا بعد خطاب الملك محمد السادس بمناسبة الذكرى 34 لـ'المسيرة الخضراء' يوم 6 تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر حيث وصف بالخونة كل من أعرب عن تعاطف مع البوليزاريو، ودعا إلى قبضة حديدية للمناهضين للوحدة الترابية للبلاد، ولهذا يجري التركيز على مخاطبة الملك المغربي.
في هذا الصدد وجه الأمين العام لحزب اليسار الموحد كايو لارا منذ أسبوع رسالة إلى ملك اسبانيا خوان كارلوس يطالبه بالتدخل لصالح أميناتو بحكم العلاقة الطيبة التي تجمعه مع نظيره المغربي الملك محمد السادس.
وكشف أمس هذا المسؤول الحزبي أنه تلقى جواباً من سكرتارية الملك تخبره أن الملك مستعد دائما للقيام بمساع ٍ مكملة للحكومة حيث كان يرغب في التدخل ليطلب من محمد السادس السماح للناشطة الصحراوية بالعودة لإيجاد حل لهذه الأزمة، ولكن حكومة خوسي لويس رودريغيث سبتيرو اعتبرت أن الوقت غير مناسب.
وخلف الكشف عن هذه المعطيات اندهاشا في الأوساط السياسية في اسبانيا لأن سبتيرو كان دائما يؤكد أن الملك خوان كارلوس يعتبر جسرا مع المغرب وبعض الأنظمة الملكية في العالم العربي ويلعب دورا رئيسيا كمحاور.
وكان رئيس الحكومة الإسبانية السابق خوسي ماريا أثنار بدوره منع الملك خوان كارلوس من الواسطة في أزمة جزيرة تورة سنة 2002 كما منعه من حضور زفاف الملك محمد السادس في الفترة نفسها.
وفي الوقت ذاته، فسرت أوساط سياسية أخرى أن موقف سبتيرو يعود إلى الطلب الذي كان قد قدمه للملك محمد السادس لحل هذه الأزمة ولكنه تعامل معه بنوع من التجاهل. وعادت العديد من الجمعيات المتعاطفة مع أميناتو حيدر مساء أمس إلى مناشدة الملك خوان كارلوس بالتدخل لصالح الناشطة الصحراوية، إذ أن المجتمع السياسي والمدني في هذا البلد الأوروبي يعيش يوميا على أخبار حيدر التي تتصدر الصفحة الأولى للجرائد الكبرى ونشرات الأخبار والإذاعات.
