Labour, Falana, others to move against Morocco over Western Sahara – Guardian Newspaper
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), along with its allies in civil society, are planning to mount pressure on Morocco towards ensuring that Western Sahara obtains its independence.
Chairperson of NLC Women Commission, Ladi Illiya, who disclosed at the weekend in Abuja while receiving the President of the Saharawi Women Union, Fatima Mehdi, that notable human rights activists such as the President of West African Bar Association, Femi Falana and former President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Dr. Dipo Fashina, would begin a campaign that would lead to segregation of diplomatic ties with the North African country with the aim of speeding the process of granting independence to about one million inhabitants of Western Sahara.
Her words: “Just like what we witnessed in the struggle for South Africa independence, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) mobilised resources to fund activities aimed at getting the independence of South Africa and we are prepared to do the same again to force Morocco to set machinery in motion for the independence of Western Sahara.
