Des pirates somaliens ont détourné le « Blida », un bateau-cargo algérien, ont annoncé ce dimanche 2 janvier les forces européennes anti-piraterie. Le « Blida » avait à son bord 27 membres d’équipage, issus d’Algérie, d’Ukraine et des Philippines, a précisé cette source. Il a été intercepté à 150 miles nautiques au sud-est du port de Salalah, à Oman.

Au moment de l’attaque, le vraquier algérien, chargé, se dirigeait de Salalah vers Dar Essalem, en Tanzanie, où il devait livrer sa cargaison de 26 000 tonnes. Les circonstances et les détails de l’attaque n’étaient pas connus dimanche, selon la force européenne.

C’est la première fois qu’un navire algérien est détourné par les pirates somaliens. Ces derniers détiennent actuellement 28 navires et 654 personnes en otage, selon les données des forces européennes anti-piraterie.

Quand aux otages, ils doivent se charger d'espoir, le je m'en foutisme de notre état qui ne dépensera pas un sou pour eux, fera tellement désespérer les pirates qu'ils les relacheront gratuitement, par charité.

O Blida, cargueiro de 20.586 toneladas, foi capturado quando se encontrava a cerca de 150 milhas náuticas a sudeste do porto de Salalah, no sultanato de Omã, segundo a força naval europeia.
O navio, tripulado por marinheiros argelinos, ucranianos e filipinos, seguia de Salalah para Dar es Salaam, na Tanzânia.
Segundo a missão europeia, 28 navios estão no momento em posse de piratas ao largo da costa somali, com 654 tripulantes mantidos como reféns.

(BRUSSELS) - An Algerian cargo ship carrying 27 crew was pirated Saturday off a port in Oman, bringing to 28 the total number of vessels held by pirates off the coast of Somalia, European Union naval forces said.
The Blida, a 20,586 tonne bulk carrier, was seized around 150 nautical miles southeast of the Oman port of Salalah, the EU-Navfor anti-piracy forces said in a statement.
The vessel was on its way to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, from Salalah in Oman, at the time of the attack with a crew of Algerian, Ukrainian and Filipino sailors.
"No further details of the attack are known at this stage," the statement said.
EU-Navfor said there were currently 28 vessels and 654 hostages being held by pirates off the coast of Somalia.
A Mozambique fishing boat was earlier reported to have been seized Friday near the Mozambique coast.

EU Naval Force spokesman Paddy O'Kennedy said MV Blinda was seized by pirates yesterday afternoon, approximately 150 nautical miles South East of the port of Salalah, Oman. "MV Blida has a crew of 27 (Algerian, Ukrainian and Philippino) and is carrying a cargo of Clinker," O'Kennedy said in a statement today.

The 20,586 tonne Bulk Carrier was on her way to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania from Salalah in Oman at the time of the attack. "No further details of the attack are known at this stage," he said, adding that the vessel was registered with MSC (HOA) but had not reported to UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).

There are now 28 vessels and 654 hostages being held by pirates off the coast of Somalia.

The pirates have intensified their action in the Indian Ocean and Gulf of Aden and most of hijackings end without casualties when a ransom has been paid, but often after several months of negotiations.

The Gulf of Aden, a body of water between Somalia and Yemen, is the main sea route between Europe and Asia. Tankers carrying Middle East oil through the Suez Canal must pass first through the Gulf of Aden.

About four per cent of the world's daily oil supply is shipped through the gulf.

The attacks are being carried out by increasingly well- coordinated Somali gangs armed with automatic weapons and rocket- propelled grenades, maritime officials said.

The Horn of Africa nation has been without a functioning government since 1991, and remains one of the world's most violent and lawless countries.

Combined Task Force 150, a naval alliance dominated by the United States and based in the Gulf of Aden nation of Djibouti, is patrolling an area within the Gulf of Aden to help protect ships from pirates.

MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) -- An unidentified number of Filipino crewmen of an Algerian bulk carrier were seized by ransom-seeking Somali pirates yesterday near the port of Oman, said European Union Naval Force (EUNAVFOR) today.
The MV Blida was on its way to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania from Salalah in Oman at the time of the attack, said the EU force on its official website, adding "MV Blida was pirated at approximately 150 nautical miles southeast of the port of Oman on Saturday afternoon."
No further details of the attack were immediately available, but the EUNAVFOR said the vessel has a crew of 27, comprising of Algerians, Ukranians and Filipinos.
To date, some 107 Filipino seamen remain in the hands of Somali pirates on board nine vessels, statistics showed.
As a policy, the Philippine government does not negotiate nor pay ransom to kidnappers, but gives ship owners the free hand in negotiating for the release of abducted Filipino sailors.
In the past, millions of dollars worth of ransom were believed to have been paid by ship owners to Somali pirates in exchange for the release of abducted sailors and hijacked vessels.
Filipino seafarers account for almost 30 percent of the global seaborne manpower or about 350,000 sailors, manning oil tankers, luxury liners, and passenger vessels worldwide, exposing them to piracy attacks.
Despite the risks, private shipping companies still see the seas surrounding the Horn of Africa as a cost-effective means for moving goods with as many as 20,000 ships traveling these waters annually.

Pour l'Algérie, c'est un pays frère car il a adopté l'arabe comme langue officielle.... Depuis, depuis 1974 ce pays est Membre de la Ligue Arabe.

Dans ma tristesse d'apprendre cet acte de piraterie.... je ne peux m'empêcher de penser à une affaire qui touchait aussi l'Algérie: Celle de Moïse Tshombe .... qui eut lieu en 1967....!
