3 foreign airlines to open shop in Nigeria
The country’s aviation sector is being further opened up with three foreign airlines finalising arrangements to enter the market, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) has reported.
The airlines are Qatar Air, Royal Air Maroc of Morocco and America’s Continental Airlines, all of which are expected to get the nod by the end of the second quarter of the year.
Already, arrangements are at an advanced stage to endorse the airlines’ entry, as they have approached the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) Plc for handling services.
The General Manager of NAHCO, Mr Bates Sule, said in a statement in Lagos on Wednesday that talks between the airlines and the handling company had reached an advanced stage. He expressed optimism that the deals would be sealed.
Sule stated that the new airlines would boost the nation’s aviation industry and enhance NAHCO’s market share of handling services.
NAHCO currently handles almost all foreign flights operating in and out of the country, with 14 airlines already in its kitty.
Sule also said NAHCO was extending its operations to cover some domestic airlines due to the new aviation policy on handling.
