It was in 1967, Lounis Aït Menguellet was just seventeen years old when he appeared for the very first time in a radio show, "the Artists of tomorrow" animated by Cherif Kheddam. Our young poet interpreted Ma trud (if you cry). The one who was used to sing among friends under the moonlight of Ighil Bwammas, his native village, becomes, in a few months, this heartbreaking idol. The transition towards the "engaged" songs was smoother than what was said. What will be his future work has started to take shape in his first song Idaq wul (the oppressed heart).
Later, he reopens the file of the love to close it with Tayri (Love). Within this interval, he did a play on word in the song Qim deg rebbi-w (come on my lap) referring in fact to his guitar. He sets the tone starting from the song Ali d waâli (end of the Seventies) which recalls the itinerary of a despot. His style will continue with signature songs such as Agu (Fog), Tibratin (Letters)... Certain themes like fraternity, disunion used in these titles will be picked up later on. As an example, the allegories already used in Lxuf (Fear) in 1981-1982 reappeared in its last album. Aït Menguellet sang various topics giving his poetry a whole making it to be appreciated by everyone.

C'était en 1967, Lounis Aït Menguellet avait tout juste dix-sept ans quand il passa pour la toute première fois dans une émission radio. C'était alors "les Artistes de demain" assurée par Cherif Kheddam. Notre jeune poète y interpréta Ma trud (Si tu pleures). Celui qui avait l'habitude de chanter entre copains sous le clair de lune d'Ighil Bwammas, son village natal, devient, en quelques mois, cet idole qui bouleverse les coeurs. La transition vers la chanson engagée n'est pas aussi brutale qu'on le dit : l'ébauche de ce que sera plus tard son oeuvre est esquissée dès la première chanson Idaq wul (le Coeur oppressé).
Plus tard, il rouvre le dossier de l'amour pour le clore avec Tayri (l'Amour). Dans l'intervalle, il se livre à un jeu de mots dans la chanson Qim deg rebbi-w (Mets-toi sur mes genoux !) s'adressant en fait à sa guitare. Il donne le ton à partir de la chanson Ali d waâli (Fin des années 70) qui retrace l'itinéraire d'un despote. Son style ira en s'affirmant avec des chansons fondatrices comme Agu (le Brouillard), Tibratin (Missives)... Certains thèmes comme la fraternité, la désunion utilisés dans ces titres seront repris plus tard. A titre d'exemple, les allégories déjà sollicitées dans Lxuf (la Peur) en 1981-1982 reviennent dans son dernier album. Aït Menguellet a chanté divers thèmes qui confèrent à sa poésie la totalité qui lui vaut d'être apprécié par tout le monde.
