The Dubai Government plans to spend Dh74 billion ($20.1 billion) to improve its road network and public transport system under a strategic plan unveiled yesterday. The plan will cater to the development requirements of the emirate until 2020, said a report.
The plan will put in place modern and integrated road network and public transport system, said the Gulf News report.
Expansion of the Dubai Metro system and the introduction of tram services are the highlights of the Dubai Strategic Plan.
Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has reviewed the plan and has given his consent for its implementation, the report said.
Of the Dh74 billion outlay, Dh44 billion will be spent on road infrastructure and Dh30 billion for the integrated public transport system.
The plan includes construction of new roads with a total length of 500km, more than 95 new interchanges and improving the existing road network in Dubai.
