  • Mufti of Tatarstan (Fed de Russie) urges fellow-Muslims in Ukraine to refrain from fueling civil war

“We must protect human lives and seek exclusively peaceful solutions to our contradictions,” Kamil Sagitullin said

Chairman of the Islamic Religious Department in Russia’s constituent republic of Tatarstan, Kamil Samigullin, has issued an appeal to fellow-Muslims in Ukraine to stay away from fanning of civil war in that country.
“A threat of civil war and endless bloodshed is looming over the people of Ukraine and a scenario of this kind should not be admitted under any circumstances,” the mufti’s appeal said. “Whatever the political discords that might be tearing society apart, all of us should always remember the borderline, which we must never overstep.”

“We must protect human lives and seek exclusively peaceful solutions to our contradictions,” Kamil Sagitullin said.
The mufti addressed his appeal to the rank-and-file people, in the first place, “the ones whom we share our religious values with,” Deputy Mufti Rustem Batrov told Itar-Tass.
He indicated that many Moslems in Ukraine and Crimea were pursuing political objectives and clearly forgetting about the humanitarian and religious values.
“The mufti warned them against encroaching on the commandments of Islam, which declare murder a deep sin,” Batrov said.
