SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA (BNO NEWS) -- A strong earthquake struck near the city of Sacramento, northeast of San Francisco, in the U.S. state of California on early Sunday morning, seismologists and witnesses said. There was no immediate word on damage or casualties.
The 6.0-magnitude earthquake at 03:20 a.m. local time (1020 GMT) was centered about 4 miles (6 kilometers) northwest of American Canyon, or about 51 miles (82 kilometers) west-southwest of the city Sacramento. It struck about 6.7 miles (10.8 kilometers) deep, making it a shallow earthquake, according to the United States Geological Survey.
