Iran said Monday it had conducted another ballistic missile test, claiming the missile displayed pinpoint accuracy at a range of 1,250 miles. Brigadier General Ali Abdollahi, the Iranian military's deputy chief of staff, told Iran's Tasnim news agency the firing took place two weeks ago and was accurate to within 25 feet, which he described as zero error.
"We can guide this ballistic missile," he said. The missile range includes Israel and several other Middle East nations, but Iran has asserted the missiles are for defense only. Abdollahi declined to provide further details on the missile or the test. He said the Iranian military has allocated 10% of the nation's defense budget to research projects aimed at "strengthening defense power."
The U.S. State Department had no immediate comment on the test when contacted by USA TODAY.
