Working successfully together: Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and SOVAC S.P.A. expand their partnership in Algeria. In the future, the assembly plant in Relizane (280 kilometres south west of Algiers), where the Caddy is already produced, is set to make the Amarok pick-up as well. The plant has already just produced the 10,000th Caddy – seven months earlier than planned due to the great demand. Board of Management Member for Production and Logistics Dr Josef Baumert and Board of Management Member for Sales and Marketing Heinz-Jürgen Löw have now signed an agreement in Relizane with Mourad Oulmi, CEO of SOVAC S.P.A, on production of the Amarok by the joint venture company SOVAC Production S.P.A. Baumert: “Following the successful start of local Caddy production last year, this is a logical next step for us. Amarok production in Algeria is a further milestone in our strategy of internationalisation.” The production is carried out everywhere in accordance with our Group-wide quality standards.” In order to ensure this, he added, the Algerian staff in the Production, Logistics and Quality Assurance departments had received on-site training from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles experts. The Algerian management staff had also been through an upskilling programme lasting several months. Baumert: “All of this will assure the level of product quality that customers associate with us.”
