China has been building the world's largest solar farm on the Tibetan Plateau in an ambitious bid to transform itself into the new green superpower.
The Gonghe Solar Park in Qinghai province sprawls over an area of 298 square kilometres (115 square miles), about five times the size of Manhattan, according to People's Daily.
A total of 42 Chinese solar companies have built a massive 3,450 megawatts installed capacity in the park, which could power families living in an area nearly as big as India.
According to the report, the massive Gonghe Solar Park is capable of providing electricity to about 2.5 million households across China's five provinces and autonomous regions, including Qinghai, Gansu, Shaanxi, Ningxia and Xinjiang, which in total cover 3.08 million square kilometres (1.2 million square miles).
One of the power stations in the park, the Longyangxia Project, made headlines when it became the largest solar park in the world last year, with the farm's four million panels being able to generate a whopping 850 megawatts of clean energy - enough to supply up to 200,000 households.
