Opposition leader of Dominica, Lennox Linton’s meeting with Brahim Ghali, the leader of the separatist Polisario Front raises questions over a shady deal. Brahim Ghali, who is facing critical criminal charges of genocide and crimes against humanity, is running a separatist group in the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.

Member of Parliament and leader of the opposition, Lennox Linton visited Brahim Ghali in October 2017, where Linton supported the separation agenda of Brahim Ghali who is facing critical criminal charges in the National Court of Spain. Along with that, Lennox Linton also received US $500,000 from the Polisario Front as election funding and Ghali offered him fertilizers for farmers in Dominica, but Linton did not follow up since he received the desired money.
The meeting between two held around 2 years before the general elections of Commonwealth of Dominica, for which Lennox Linton was the prime minister candidate of United Workers Party (UWP). The reason behind showing solidarity with criminal ideology people and especially close relation with Brahim Ghali is still unknown, however, the money was delivered to Lennox Linton as elections funding. It is clear that it had a direct connection with the election funding as Ghali’s organization is accused of embezzling large amounts of aid money.
Lennox Linton and the Former Ambassador of Dominica to the United Nations, Crispin Grigwar were briefed on the territorial issues of Western Sahara by Brahim Ghali.
Ghali is often labelled as the torturer of the Sahrawi separatist movement, and Spanish judiciary has issued an international arrest warrant against him for crimes against humanity.
Furthermore, Brahim Ghali is also recognized as the most wanted man in Spain for the assassination of thirty fishers from the Canary Islands. The fishermen were killed at Ghali’s orders by the Polisario armed militia he was commanding.
Several Sahrawi people, tortured by Ghali, has even given testimonies on the suffering they endured by him in the country. Besides this, Brahim Ghali is also facing allegations of sexual abuse and rape to the young Sahrawi woman.
The European Union (EU), as well as other international organizations, regularly send generous aid to the camps under the control of Ghali and his separatist group Polisario Front. However, a 2007 report by the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF), made public in 2015, published a “well-structured, years-long” misappropriation and embezzlement campaign by the Polisario Front.
Ghali’s SADR claims territorial sovereignty over Western Sahara, a piece of land colonized by the Spanish before 1975, contradicting Morocco’s stance that the area represents the kingdom’s “Southern Provinces.” The SADR’s claimed capital of Laayoune and several other major cities remain under the control of Moroccan forces.
Both, the United Nations and the European Union have been monitoring the situation in the Tindouf Camp, which is under control of the Polisario Front and housing more than 90,000 people. The disputes are raising over the aid embezzlement, inhumane conditions and crackdowns on opposing voices.
Leader of Opposition, Lennox Linton is not new to controversies as he was exposed by Al-Jazeera of making a deal concerning diplomatic passport. The agreement is also suspected to be signed in the year 2017 when he visited the infamous Brahim Ghali.
