Adrar: hundreds of young people protest against an American company

500 young men living in the municipality of Fnoughil in Adrar province (southern Algeria) expressed their anger over authorities as their daily problems have not been solved yet. They took pecafully to the streets last week protesting over unemployment scourge. They presented a list of requests to the local authorities concerning an American oil and gas exploration company.
More than 200 men coming from northern Algeria and elsewhere were employed by the American company, the protesters who accuse authorities of neglecting them.
According to protestors, a group of 50 young men coming from other wilayas (provinces) came this week looking for the head office of the American company. Then, the inhabitants started protesting against their marginalisation.
A reporter from Echorouk wo went on the spot said representatives of the protesters and the mayor give big importance to the requests.
They told the reporter that they would work on finding the truth and discuss with the concerned officials in order to put an end to this "mess" and solve the problem of unemployment in the area.
As for the director of industry and mines, he did not want to anwser our questions on this issue.
It is worth recalling that the Algerian desert which is rich in hydrocarbons witnessed several protests in various towns of the region for unfair recruiting methods processed by petroluem and oil services companies who prefer to recruit people coming from the northern parts of the country.
