F-word lashing for David Miliband
FOREIGN Secretary David Miliband has been given a four-letter word tongue-lashing by his Russian opposite number as relations plummet.
Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov erupted in fury in an ugly telephone call between the two men.
Lavrov fumed: "Who are you to f***ing lecture me?" at an astonished Mr Miliband.
The rest of the conversation was so full of swearing by Mr Lavrov that Foreign Office diplomats were unable to compile a transcript.
Lavrov demanded to know what the Foreign Secretary knew about Russian history as the two traded blows over Russia's invasion of neighbouring Georgia.
And he tore into Mr Miliband over the Iraq War.
A spokesman for the Foreign Secretary said: "We do not discuss diplomatic conversations between foreign ministers."
The conversation was peppered with swear words by the Russian whose behaviour stunned the most seasoned diplomatic mandarins.
Lavrov built a reputation as an aggressive diplomat when he was Russia's envoy to the United Nations in New York.
His outburst underlines Moscow's fury at international condemnation for its invasion of Georgia over the summer.
President Dmitri Medvedev has openly flouted an agreement to pull troops out of the former Soviet state.
David Miliband.
Sergei Lavrov.
