  • JS Kabylie shatter Ismaily’s dream

Algerian giants JS Kabylie shattered the continental ambitions of Ismaily of Egypt by handing them a lone goal defeat in their Group B Orange CAF Champions League clash on Friday at Tizi Ouzou.
Nigerian-import Izu Azuka netted the match winner four minutes from time as the ‘Canaries’ maintained their impressive run of yet to lose a game in the premier continental club championship.
However, the result served a bitter pill for the Egyptian ‘Samba Boys’ as it completely killed off their chances of advancing to the next stage of the competition.
JS Kabylie, who had already sealed their semis berth prior to the clash, started on a low note, allowing the visitors to dominate proceedings from the early stages.
Needing the maximum points to boost their chances, Ismaily’s early output put them in a good stead to achieve their ambition; however erratic shooting on the part of their attackers served their bane.
It took the introduction of Azuka; a fringe member of the Canaries team in the latter stages to swing the tide in favour of the hosts and it was only a matter of time that the opener would come.
Four minutes from time, Mohamed Aoudia headed a cross unto the path of the onrushing Azuka, who slid in from his left foot with the Ismaily goalie beaten for the only goal of the match.
With a game remaining, JS Kabylie are assured of finishing as group winners, leaving Group B’s other spot for the semis between six-time record winners, Al-Ahly and Heartland of Nigeria. The two clubs will incidentally faceoff in the other Group B clash on Sunday at the Cairo International Stadium.
