  • Corporate Greed in Morocco

Mostapha Ben Ali was earning $ 60,000.00 per month in Morocco! that is $ 720,000.00 per year. He was the CEO of 2M

In a country where the soldier guarding the nation is still earning $ 200 per month , Mostapha Ben Ali was earning equal to a squadron of 300 soldiers, a regiment of men with enough courage to defend an entire city.
One man earning the salaries of 300 brave Moroccan soldiers, this is the extreme injustice a man can accept.

While one is putting his own life at risk to protect Morocco and our families, we reward him with 1/300th the salary of Ben Ali. A shy man who can’t even face the camera from what I read in a few articles about him.
This man introduced the genius idea that we need Turkish and Indian movies on 2M. Is this really what the Moroccan person wants to be reduced to? Are we a sleeping nation or a herd of sheep to let people like Mostapha ben Ali suck the country’s tax money?

I visited local hospitals without Penicillin, without alcohol to treat wounds without beds, without band aids and without vaccines, hospitals with empty shelves while we are feeding this man $ 60,0000 per month and failing to protect our babies from simple ear infections.
For $ 720,000 Morocco could build a school and a hospital for much needed education and health care, I am not in position to tell the government what to do “its money” but I sure am mad to know that a person whose qualifications are in question, as far as I am concerned, can earn this much.

Faical Al Araichi the director of SOREAD and SNRT ousted him but for reasons we may never know. In a Saga including 150 Million Dirhams missing and powerful politicians involved in the orchestrated spending spree of 2M which proved many times to be a failure and should be replaced by a new and effective channel. Now we have Salim Cheikh and Samira Sitaïl caring for 2M after what happened.

Let’s recap: our hospitals are nothing but brick walls, our schools are a joke our streets are unsafe and full of paddlers and 2M finds it normal to give this man, in this environment , $ 15,000.00 per week! And for what? You must watch 2M two days in row and you’ll see poor programming, unprecedented mediocrity, poor quality of animators and anchors, the news presenters are so stiff, the language is poor and they champion the art of repetition. Indian and Turkish movies constantly, the 10 mn of sports is presented in such formal way, it makes you wonder whether this channels does sports out of love or it pretends.
This is what this man what getting $ 60,000 per month for? Again this is an insult to our intelligence.
I am wondering after giving Mostapha Ben Ali $ 60,000.00 per month and losing 150 million DH how much is 2M going to pay the new CEO Mr. Salim Cheikh? Can they tell us? Other positions come to mind such as RAM and OCP, I wonder how much their CEOs earn.

Some free market thinkers would argue that Morocco needs less intervention from the government and more people like Mostapha Ben Ali. I say to those, the example of the negative outcome of this strategy is in front of us, American CEOs were making astronomical figures in a badly regulated market place, the results are catastrophic, the total collapse of the world financial market is a direct outcome of this blind greed driven system, the Moroccan economy is too fragile to allow itself being driven by greedy CEOs. No bail out will ever fix the Moroccan economy if it gets infested by Mostapha Ben Ali’s.
The Moroccan citizen, living in the mother land or abroad will lose faith in the Moroccan economy if we keep rewarding mediocre people with incomprehensive salaries and benefits, the Diaspora will not invest a penny in Morocco if it knows that the system is based on favoritism, relations, corruptions and ran by Mostapha Ben Ali type of CEOs.

Corporate greed not only causes unfair practices within a company i.e. people in lower level position earning crumbs while CEOs live in luxury and beyond; more catastrophic repercussions occur in an environment of greed: CEOs rely on illegal and sometimes dangerous business practices to show profits for extra bonuses and more wages, Enron CEOs were hiding financial problems for years and when the company was about to collapse they sold their assets for big profits and thousands of hard working people lost 30 years of savings. AIG CEOs got $ 82 billion from tax payers and immediately paid themselves million in back bonuses and throw a first class party celebrating their trick on the government.
In Morocco, CEOs are as greedy, people like this 2M CEO earning this much while his channel is being subsidized by the tax payers money did everything to keep his unusually well paying job, he is now in court on over $ 1 million suite for being fired “illegally“, imagine in a country where 30% of total population still lives under $ 5.00 a day 1 man was earning $ 3,000.00 per day!
Unfair wage setting for people like Mustapha Ben Ali is not the only problem in Morocco, preferential treatment by the government of Morocco to certain companies and personalities due to their CONNECTIONS is also rampant illegal and bad for all Moroccans, Addoha comes to mind when we talk about preferential treatment, consider the flowing
    “from Reuters”
    - Moroccan property firm Douja Promotion Groupe Addoha ADH.CS reported a 36 percent rise in 2007 net profit as it reaped the benefits of investment in social housing, luxury developments and holiday homes.
Net income grew to 702.5 million dirhams ($95.65 million) from 516.9 million a year earlier, the company said in a statement. Turnover soared 98 percent to 3.0 billion dirhams. ..

Mr. Anas Safrioui started his first big project in 1995, this man is said to be the richest Moroccan ever lived ! And in such short period! Favoritism practice unfairly keeps small enterprises away from getting a piece of the pie and in this case the pie is a booming real estate development sector, offered to Mr. Anas on a golden platter.
To me Anas or Mostapha are the reasons the Diaspora should not invest a penny in Morocco until we know that the standards of clarity, fairness and justice are part of the Moroccan business, if people from within the country can’t change this situation, those who live abroad can by imposing the creation of a committee to find and eradicate favoritism in Morocco
    The rules should be:
You get the job because you have credentials
You get the project because your bid is low and your reputation is good
You earn a salary, especially if paid by tax payers money, because it fits the duties Unfortunately what we see is: people getting jobs with low or no education or skills while those who are more eligible get the door slammed in their face, this is why we are one of the lowest performers’ in the world.
Companies getting government jobs even if their bid is high because they have a contact or two in the ministry, this causes our roads to break within a year our bridges to collapse and we had to wait for decades to get highways.
If average Moroccan is still struggling to buy his first home or sometimes to put food on the table while Mr. Anas becomes the richest Moroccan in 10 years and for Mr. 2m Mostapha to earn $3,000 a day then we ought to rethink our commitment to help Morocco prosper because in reality we the “Diaspora” are creating more Anas’s and Mostaphas by buying homes and investing without conditions, the least we should ask is for our money to go to Mr. average Moroccan not the moguls of Morocco.

              ça te fais mal au coeur de voire la réalité en face. Ok, bon je corrige;
