The underlining characteristics of this election or should I say the highlights of this performance are very striking as well as the balance of forces-mental forces- of all the challengers are very primitive when compared to the incumbent abilities for he is a shrewd SOB who managed to rope them and have them entangled in his web. He , artfully, extended the rope and let them run with it, knowing, pertinently they will hang themselves with their own rope running in circle. Old timer like him has -accept it or not, there is not argument to the contrary you could oppose to it, as the facts of past successful diplomacy achievements he undertook speak for themselves- this fact alone plead for him!
This one detail rise in itself a question "What is their claim to the fame in terms of diplomacy?" None, obviously! the latter detail ,he knew how to exploit it to his benefit , he did not even need to speak up or engage in campaigning to prove that point!
The second point, is in the immediate past, he has proven to be a wonderful opponent to the military establishment which most of the people hated for their manipulation and exactions . His coming has marked a change in the life of algerians, this fact you cannot deny it . The overall quality of life, if i refer to the Algerian testifying on the air , Has improved tremendously. So , this is another argument which pleads in his favor!
in the other hand most of the challenger have nothing to refer to to support their drive to seek the presidency in term of diplomacy nor in transition from dark era to the "prosperous " era relatively speaking. Well i can make an exception Of Mr Ben Flis who has shred a great deal of time in transition as prime minister . Even then , it's very slim claim as he can say(Bouteflika) that was the result of his policy and nobody else.
it's obvious then "the rapport de force" between the incumbent and the the challengers are in favor of the incumbent as he is and will be holding a hefty lead on all of them . It's ,however, worthy to note that his campaign had known a momentarily set back that almost took a dangerous turn when his campaign manger insulted our people (I am a Chaoui :22:by the way)
He off course attempted to weather it down which seem to have worked like in the past except this time the chaoui youth is unanimous whether inside the territory or outside as the trend shows they will remain a such for many years to come. This volcano is active even if it seems to be dormant!
Now what are the chances of those challengers ? Very slim it would take a miracle for them to prevail. I personally do not see how?
He is eloquent and a shrewd debater and they are not. He has two favorable pasts the far and the recent to plead for him and they have not
Add to that the fact none of them including himself (incumbent) neither explicitly come up with detail plan like in every democratic process in western nations on what to do: step by step concerning all the issues the nation faces including the social welfare of people the aspirations of the youth the development of various sector of the economy, the status of the military as an entity that should do defines only and be subject to civilian authority as well the status scientists the medical establishment and mostly education, housing and agriculture . Almost everyone and god knows that a plan is badly needed to carve in pieces every thing imaginable under the sun to address all the issues. This manifest absence ,except for some vague and timid pseudo plan , hurts their chances more than his chance as he can say i am in it to further continue what i undertook as reforms. Well, who can argue with that? The only serious reaction that could create a dent in his plan is the barakat movement and the call of other parties such as RCD to boycott the election. This tactic is appealing to many of us but still has a double edge as it will give him a legitimacy by creating a vacuum to allow only those who would vote for him cast their vote and if they happen to be close to 51% even doubtful it will extend him a life line to cross this storm safely.
I am afraid and it saden me to see this slogan of barakat to become a rap song to repeat over and over.
Now it's too late and you all passed your bed time ,let me turn off the light so you can have a good night sleep and hope the boxes will prove me wrong
tomorrow
