Shortage of phosphate causes large food problem
07 October 2009 DUTCH PRESS AGENCY THE HAGUE - the food production in the world comes in danger by running out phosphate, a very important component for fertilizers. That stands in a recommendation of a group of minister Gerda Verburg (LNV). The growing world population can only be fed if it succeeds to make recycle phosphate . Much phosphate goes lost at the extraction, in agriculture . Only very limits part is recovered and the bulk finishes on the ocean floor. Experts fear that the winbare quantities will be over in 75 years . The world will depend on: Morocco and the western Sahara, and China. The wheel group wants that the Netherlands puts the problem high on the agenda of the FAO (world food organisation) and World Bank.
