Taoufik Makhloufi of Algeria, one of the favorites for the 1500m final on Tuesday after his dominating heat one semifinal win yesterday, has been disqualified from the 800m and kicked out the Olympic 1500m final, after being deemed to not have given an honest effort in the first round of the 800m.
Makhloufi was entered in the 800m today and started heat number five. He ran around the first turn in his lane, then immediately cut into lane one, fell behind the pack before 200m, and then stepped off the track. Makhloufi then managed to cut across the track and cheer on the other 800m runners as they came around on the second lap. Screen shots below. Rewatching the BBC feed we saw no injury or mention of an injury, but this LetsRun.com message board post claims on the worldwide feed that Makhloufi was "walking off with a trainer, favoring his leg" and an Ethiopian journalist said Makhloufi was acting like he was injured.
The IAAF disqualified Makhloufi saying, "The Referee considered that he had not provided a bona fide effort and decided to exclude him from participation in all further events in the competition under Rule 142.4." Rule 142.2 says:

Makhloufi thrown out of Olympics for not trying
Algerian 1,500 metres medal contender Taoufik Makhloufi has been thrown out of the London Olympics for not trying in his 800m heat, the International Association of Athletics Federations said.


Makhloufi, who won his 1,500 semi-final in three minutes 42.24 seconds, had been forced to run in the two lap race after his team failed to withdraw him from it by Sunday's deadline, an IAAF spokeswoman said.
The 24-year-old lined up at the start of heat five at the Olympic stadium on Monday but was already well behind the field at the start of the back straight before stopping running completely another 100 metres into the race and wandering back across the infield past the pole vault area.
"The Referee considered that he had not provided a bona fide effort and decided to exclude him from participation in all further events in the competition," read an IAAF statement.
Makhloufi stormed past Olympic and world champion Asbel Kiprop in a stunning to finish to his 1,500 heat on Sunday, marking him out as a possible title contender.
The IAAF spokeswoman said he could be reinstated for Tuesday's 1,500 final if he could get a medical certificate from a local doctor.
Makhloufi, the African champion in the 800, has shown a marked improvement this year, bringing his personal best down from 3.32.94 to 3.30.80 in the 1,500.
The exclusion is the latest in a string of incidents at the Games where athletes have not tried to win in order to manipulate results or draws in their ultimate favour.
The worst was the badminton fiasco, where eight women from China, Indonesia and South Korea were thrown out of the Olympics for playing to lose group matches in order to get a better draw in the knockout stages.
There have been other incidents which have not drawn any punishment, with organisers deciding that spectators had not been denied a competition.
French rider Mickael Bourgain quit the cycling road race after just a few kilometres as planned on the first weekend of the Games having been forced to take part in order to compete in his favoured keirin track event.
Last Thursday, teenage cyclist Philip Hindes appeared to admit he deliberately crashed in cycling's team sprint event to ensure Britain were handed a restart because they set off badly.

pas du tout, il ne faut pas se leurrer il n'aurai gagner rien du tout
et puis j’espère de tout mon cœur que l’Algérie rentrera avec 0 médailles pour que le ministère des sports soit mis en face de ses responsabilité, une éventuelle médaille pourrait cacher leur incompétence .

quoi que je suis certain que personne ne changera, du ministre au plus petit des employés, fakhamatouhou le roi boutef 1er aime bien placer ses amis incompétents .

Pourquoi est ce qu'il n'a pas fini sa série ?

Là franchement, je ne pénalise pas l'athlète, mais l'encadrement. Pourquoi l'ont-ils alignés sur les deux courses sachant qu'elles se chevauchaient ? S'ils avaient prévu leur coup, pourquoi ne l'ont-ils pas retiré plutôt du 800 m ?

L’athlète algérien Taoufik Makhloufi qualifié à la finale au 1500m prévue demain soir, risque d’etre disqualifié par l’IAAF. Au motif qu’il a abandonné lundi matin dans la 5e série éliminatoire du 800m.


L’affaire est entre les mains des juges de courses de l’IAAF qui estiment que Makhloufi a abandonné sans motif valable. Les responsables de la délégation algérienne ont fait appel auprès de la commission technique de l’IAAF. Pourquoi le DTN de la FAA présent aux JO n’ a pas évité ce scandale. Pourquoi a t-on engagé Makhloufi sur 800m ? Affaire a suivre

Et puis, même si la suspension sera levé, il sera perturbé par cette affaire et ne gagnera pas sa course.


P.S: vite un certificat médical traficoté d'un médecin algérien pour le repécher.

et puis si ils avait un peu suivi ces JO, ils aurait su que des cas pareilles ont déjà était effectués

les joueuses de badminton chinoise qui ont était disqualifié pour ne pas avoir essayer
le français Mickael Bourgain dans le cyclisme idem disqualifié pour ne pas avoir essayer
le britannique Philip Hindes également disqualifié pour ne pas avoir essayer
