The total quantity phosphate are valued on 50 billion barrels. The US has only 3.4 billion barrels phosphate reserves. Morocco has 21 billion barrels and China 13 billion barresl. It is clear that these countries shall not give away that phosphate. THE US will become in the future dependening on phosphate from phosphate-exporting countries such as Morocco. That is why Africom wants to build military bases in Morocco.
According to Australian for the Dana Cordell, linked to the university of Sydney, the phosphate production in 30 years shall rich its top .The phosphate prices on the world market, increased in the recent two years with 800% and this will continue. That the price increases is because worldwide there are more mouths to be fed. Secondly the changing food in emering economies as China and India play a large role. People eat more and more flesh and milk products, which need more phosphate for production. Thirdly the rising oil prices . Because of this the market for alternative energy sources has indeed grown, but the production of these energy sources, such as bioenergy, is deepening on phosphates .
