Islamic militant leader slams Algiers’ stance on Sahara APA - Rabat (Morocco) The deputy leader of the Algerian Islamic Salvation Front (FIS), Cheikh Ali Belhadj has denounced his country’s stance on Western Sahara, saying that “Algeria has no legal or political right to criticize Morocco’s position on the Sahara,” feeling that “those who live in glass houses should not throw stones.”
In a statement sent to the Quds Press Agency, Mr. Belhadj said that “Algeria, which has denied the Algerian people of their right to define their destiny and which violates human rights on a daily basis, has no right to defend the Western Sahara, neither is it qualified to defend its right to self-determination.”
As for the organization, “using huge financial resources” of an international colloquium by the Solidarity Committee with the Sahrawi people, Mr. Belhadj wondered : “Why for example, haven’t they organized a colloquium of the confiscation of the Algerian people’s will ? Or on the Algerian political leaders, who are on probation because of their support for the Gaza Strip (…) ?”
“And why have not they held conferences for the liberation of Iraq or Afghanistan ?” he asked.
